Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in the Zhonghe Village, Longjiang County, Heilongjiang Province. It was named by Liu Guochang et al., in 1951, and was cited officially by Sheng Jinzhang in 1964.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Its lower part is composed mainly of breccia limestone, intercalated with thin-bedded siltstone; and its upper part is composed chiefly of limestone, including grey-black and grey-white sparry bio-limestone, siliceous rock, sandstone, slate and pebbled siltstone. The limestones yield abundant animal fossils. Thickness is over 334 m

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Uncertain; the lower boundary of the formation is not clear. Permian Lexicon chart suggests diachronous (partly coeval) with the next regionally-older Gaojiawopeng Fm.

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Liutiaogou Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the Chaganculu area and West Hills of the Defa Village, Bayanulan Country in the northern part of the Zhalaite Banner, Inner Mongolia, as well as in the areas of Zhonghe Village, Shuanglong Mt. and Naobao Mt., Longjiang County, Heilongjiang Province in the form of a NE-trending belt.

Fossils

Yields Fusulinids such as Monodiexodina ferganica, Schwagerina zhongheensis, Parafusulina plauta; corals such as Tachylasma, as well as bryozoan, etc.
